Reading Time: 2 minutesGoals, what are they? For me, a goal is not to clean your bedroom (that’s a task!) or to finish your degree (that’s a commitment!). Goal setting is something much greater, it can truly define your purpose and the decisions you will make throughout your life.
So from the way I see it, it should sound impossible and you should not be afraid to have an impossible-looking goal. However, it is common to be discredited by having them.
What if someone doesn’t believe in your goal?
You will meet a lot of people that will use their energy to explain to you how absurd your goal is. However, it is up to you to stay focused and don’t allow them to distract you from your objective. There is nothing wrong with it appearing to be impossible. Most of the time, we give ourselves goals that we know we will probably accomplish in due course as a way of avoiding failure. Unfortunately, that has become a common trend.
“You will never reach your destination if you stop and throw stones at every dog that barks.”
― Winston S. Churchill
What if the circumstances make it seem like it’s impossible?
What if it is not someone telling you your goal is impossible, but the circumstances you are in make you think like that? Either you have financial difficulties or were born in an underdeveloped country, among many other circumstances. Find your way around it, there are a lot of people crying about the way they want it to be instead of reacting to the way it actually is, and I’m afraid that won’t get you anywhere.
“The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”
― Jordan Belfort
You should put yourself in a position of failing. Only then you are really pursuing something, but don’t be naive into thinking that things are just going to happen! (intentions are worthless without execution). Embrace reality and find the determination to pursue your goals. Be self-aware by understanding your weaknesses and be prepared to deal with them. At the same time be willing to put in the hours to develop your strengths.
To conclude. I encourage you to live your life by having the confidence, self-belief, and self-determination to go out there and work it out. Until you find the opportunities you want in life or by making your own opportunities. Regardless of opinions or circumstances, as a way to reach your objective.
