Reading Time: 2 minutesWe, humans, also taxonomically known as homo sapiens, from Latin, “wise man” – also called human beings, persons, people, men – are driven by motivations.
In my case, I’m driven by watching things happening around me. The more things I do, the more I want to do next. Actually, for me, life is like an addicting game that my own ego creates. As much as I try to avoid my personal gamification, I still can’t distance my entire ego from my own, true “self”.
Recently, I found that it was important to start my day with motivation: I’ve been making an effort to do the stuff I don’t like first, in the morning. And, up until here, everything has been fine… And I feel that because I no longer feel the lack of motivation in the morning. The way I start my day ends up affecting everything else.
To increase my morning motivation, I realized I needed to do something that was cyclical, fast and that brought value to my life. Even if it was a small amount of value. I made a list of things that usually do. Here it is:
- Go to the bathroom;
- Brush my teeth;
- Have breakfast;
- Get dressed;
- Make the bed (I almost never did it);
- Meditate;
- Take a look at the events on my calendar;
- Open Trello and do the most boring task;
- Make sure that I don’t open the emails;
- Thank “things”.
Out of all these tasks I regularly do, the one that would bring the most value to my life was number five: make the bed. So I started doing something right after I woke up. What? Making my own bed.
Conclusion: 1st task of the day -> Always done!
It’s funny to notice the “Superman” feeling with which I face the end of this ritual of mine. I really can make things happen. And if I’ve already done it, all the other tasks in my day will be influenced by this little task I accomplished. It’s funny to notice that, unconsciously, I feel motivated and ready to do what I mentioned above:
“In my case, I’m driven by watching things happening around me. The more things I do, the more I want to do next.“
My next step? Making my bed like a boss.
Fernando, be humble. One step at a time…
